Matawan-Colt's Neck-Junction with State 35; State 34.
Designed as a short cut to the Jersey coast, State 34 avoids all but the
smallest villages. The highway, running southeast, traverses a rolling agricultural region that once supplied much of the wheat for New York City's
bread, and now yields chiefly potatoes, grapes, and other fruit. There are
many apple orchards, as in Colonial days, supplying the cider and applejack industry for which New Jersey is well known.
Matawan to junction with State 35, 27.6 miles.
Oil stations and lunchrooms plentiful.
Three-lane concrete roadbed of recent construction.
